About ‘The Human Geographical Society of Japan’

The Human Geographical Society of Japan (HGSJ) was founded in Kyoto in 1948 and since then has been devoted to the advancement of human geography in Japan. HGSJ has a membership of more than 1,400.

HGSJ publishes the journal, Jimbun Chiri, or Japanese Journal of Human Geography every other month. It also published Chirigaku Bunken Mokuroku (Bibliographies in Japanese Geographical Researches) since 1948. HGSJ holds the annual meeting with more than 350 attendees, regular meetings four times a year and other specialty group meetings: Geographical Thought, Historical Geography, Metropolitan Area Studies, and Geographical Education. Abstracts of the annual meeting are available on J-Stage.
